The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association offers a certification that is a nationally recognized professional credential. When you become ASHA certified, you have achieved a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) and this is offered for the field of Audiology (CCC-A) or Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

Steps to Obtain ASHA Certification
- Earn Your Master's degree from an accredited CAA program.
- Complete the Praxis Exam with a passing score
- Review current standards of application and submit your application along with dues (Hint! Apply during ASHA's Gift to the Grad, May 1 – August 31, and get up to 20 months of membership for the price of 12.)
- Become an ASHA member.
- Complete a 36-week Clinical Fellowship (CY) experience under an ASHA-certified SLP or Audiologist
- Submit SFY forms (allow up to 6 weeks for review)
- Congratulations, CCC-A or CCC-SLP!
Texas State Licensure
In the state of Texas, all speech-language pathologists and audiologists, as well as interns and assistants, must adhere to licensure guidelines as established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Any questions regarding licensure or requirements to obtain/maintain licensure need to be addressed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
The Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) is a membership-based association for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, consumers, and students. TSHA does not govern or regulate licensure for speech-language pathologists or audiologists. Visit the TSHA Continuing Education Center for information on TSHA and ASHA-approved CE opportunities.
Steps to Obtain Texas License
- Earn Your Master's degree from an accredited CAA program.
- Ensure that the Intern in Speech-Language Pathology Course Work and Clinical Experience Form is completed by your CAA-accredited Program Director.
- Complete clinical fellowship and submit required forms.
- Complete and pass Praxis Exam and Jurisprudence Exam.
- Submit application, including official transcripts and fees.
- After submission, instructions will be sent to complete criminal history review and fingerprints.
- Congratulations, you’ve completed the Texas Licensure process!
