Stage two of the election process (runoff primary elections) is complete. Candidates for election are set for the general eleection on November 4. Republican Texas House of Representative candidates financially supported by Gov. Abbott won four of the six runoff elections in which school voucher legislation was an issue. The intent was to secure enough House members willing to support his pro-voucher agenda in the 2025 legislative session.
- TSHA member votes in the general election could change the direction of “voucher legislation.” The margin is slim between pro- and anti-voucher votes in the House.
- Legislators are home in their districts, raising money for the general election, in most cases. Take advantage of the fact that they are more accessible now, and visit with them in their district office about issues of importance to you and our professions, e.g., school finance, Medicaid reimbursement rates, school vouchers, Interstate Compact legislation, etc.
- The TSHA Legislative Team will be working with the Compact Coalition throughout the summer to prepare legislation and visit legislators seeking support of our bills.
- If you have topics or questions regarding legislation or TSHA activities pertaining to an issue, please contact any member of the Legislative Team.
