At the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) Convention, our Amp-Up speaker and previous American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) president, Shari Robertson, shared the importance of mentorship. Regardless of where you are in your career, having a mentor and being a mentee is essential for growth, accountability, and community. As you continue to grow, please consider mentorship through ASHA’s Mentoring Programs.

Tech Bytes
Do you take diadochokinetic rate (DDK) during your evaluations? If so, you will want to look into using this free app that a speech-language pathologist (SLP) developed to track the production of each syllable.

Graduate school can be exciting, fun, and very stressful. Kate Van Vuren is an SLP and life coach who shares some guidance and support in her podcast, “SLP Stress Management Podcast.”
Tips for Tx
According to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) at the University of Wisconsin Madison, 41.8% of our children’s books contain main characters who are white, 29.2% have main characters who are animals/other, and the remaining share of only roughly 30% includes characters who are Black/African, Latinx, Asian/Asian American, have a disability, or identify as LGBTQIAP+. Liliana Diaz wrote a beautiful post on diverse books to add to your speech therapy library.
