Happy 2023! As I began my second year as Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) President, I have reflected on this past year and all that TSHA has accomplished!
Here are some of the highlights:
- Returned to an in-person Convention (despite an ice storm)
- Created a new strategic plan for the next three years
- Drafted goals and a plan of action for our committees for 2023 to help put our strategic plan into action. Once we received feedback from the committee chairs, we approved these goals for 2023
- Established TSHA Tuesday and Webinar Wednesday experiences to give our members opportunities for free and discounted continuing education (CE) credits
- Updated our on-demand learning experience to make it more user-friendly and effective
- Enhanced our presence on social media and continued to work on ways to better communicate with our members
- Celebrated May Is Better Hearing and Speech Month
- Planned our 2023 Annual Convention
- Conducted a survey of our members to help us plan for the future
For our 2023-2025 Strategic Plan, we have four pillars:
- Education
- Member Engagement and Belonging
- Advocacy
- Operational Excellence
Each of these pillars has organizational objectives and specific goals that were developed for each committee regarding these pillars. This year, we hope you will see and experience TSHA’s vision with this strategic plan. TSHA is a strong association, and with your help, we can continue to grow and help provide support to our members who make a difference in individual lives each day!
I also would like to acknowledge the President’s Committee Chairs who I am grateful to work with each week:
Financial Advisory Committee Chair: Cherry Wright
Publications Board Chair: Jan Lougeay
Nominations and Elections Chair: Carolyn Perry
Honors and Awards Chair: Gina Glover
TSHA Leadership Development Chair: Rebecca Linke and Marva Mount
Past President’s Committee Chair: Martha McGlothlin
Past Vice President’s Committee: Brittany Hall
State Advocate for Reimbursement (STAR): Caitlin Perryman
State Advocate for Medicare Policy (StAMP): Mendi Lancaster
State Education Advocacy Leader (SEAL): Whitney Dittman
Graduate Student Representatives: Alyssa Schulz and Emily Gruver
In addition, we are excited to welcome two incoming officers to the Executive Board: Sadaf Ali as the Vice President for Member Engagement and Suzanne Bonifert as the Vice President for Professional Services. They both completed their terms as vice president-elect and are ready for 2023!
We hope you are ready for 2023 as well! I enjoy hearing from members, so if you have any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas you would like to share, please contact me at president@txsha.org. I hope to see you in Austin in February at the TSHA 2023 Convention!
