By: Robyn Martin, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-F, TSHA President
This time last year, the words persistence, grit, and resilience were used to describe the experiences of audiologists, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), speech-language pathologist assistants, graduate students, and clients during 2020. These words continued to describe us in 2021. As a state, we had record-breaking cold temperatures (along with challenges with power and water), and we experienced ongoing surges of COVID-19. Even through the personal and professional challenges, each of you was unceasing in your professionalism, advocating for your clients while providing high-quality care to clients and their families. In addition, the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) Executive Board worked to uphold TSHA’s mission, vision, and goals.
As we start 2022 and as we still face many challenges of this pandemic, TSHA’s Executive Board is committed to serving members of the organization and to supporting you and the clients you serve. TSHA is excited to welcome everyone back to our in-person TSHA 2022 Convention in Fort Worth on February 24-26. The theme for the 2022 Convention is “Rise Up.” Quality and engaging programming is planned as you reconnect in person with your fellow professionals! Your health and well-being are our top priority, and we are preparing to hold this event in accordance with national and local government guidelines to ensure the highest standards of safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and operational effectiveness.
TSHA is committed to sustaining legislative efforts, providing monthly webinars throughout the year, engaging with members through various social media channels, initiating discussions regarding cultural responsiveness, increasing exposure to the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology, and growing leaders in the professions. The Executive Board will review and update the strategic plan in 2022.
Finally, TSHA is successful only through the time and energy contributed by volunteers. Thank you to each of you for everything that you do to support TSHA!
