TSHA Ethics Guidelines

TSHA would like to support our members in meeting the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) mandated two-hour course in Ethics for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists during each licensure renewal period.  With that in mind, these guidelines for course content may help you in developing your objectives for an Ethics course.

  • For administrative efficiency, the word “Ethics” should be in the title.
  • Content should include reference to at least one of the following:
    • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) with reference to Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Administrative Rules, Chapter 111, Subchapter P., Responsibilities of the Licensee and Code of Ethics.
    • Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Occupational Code, Title 3:  Health Professions, Chapter 401.
    • ASHA Code of Ethics as related to professional issues.
    • Ethics related to professional issues which may include (but not be limited to)
      • Treatment of specific disorders
      • Evaluation
      • Supervision
      • The decision-making process pertaining to areas of concern (i.e., patient care, provision of services, eligibility, discharge, placement of equipment, etc.).
