The Texas Speech and Hearing Association (TSHA) initiated the Telepractice Committee (formerly the Telepractice Taskforce) for the purpose of educating its members regarding issues specific to speech-language and audiology telehealth services in the state of Texas.
The Telepractice Committee addresses two major areas found in the strategic plan of TSHA. First, to build the capacity within TSHA to move forward through the use of technology and second, to educate members to advance the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology, which includes an emphasis on creative, non-traditional methods of service delivery.
The Telepractice Committee’s goal is to provide members with legal, ethical, procedural and practical guidelines for the provision of telehealth speech-language and audiology services.
"Telepractice is the application of telecommunications technology to deliver professional services at a distance by linking clinician to client, or clinician to clinician, for assessment, intervention, and/or consultation." ASHA Position Statement, 2012.
